PSA: Backup your work

Woke up to this:

Not something one is eager to see

First, tried to keep calm and solve problem before being stressed (further).

Fortunately, was an easy fix. PC booted from wrong drive (don't know why), so unplugged external drives and worked again. No data was lost.

Problems seem to follow in succession, so probably be more frequent with making backups – definitely don't want to risk losing months/years of work, however unlikely.

Have been working on sorting files and backups, on top of video making. Having sorted file structure and having that backed up is very helpful to preserve your hard work and in the case your work somehow gets destroyed, you can rebuild more easily should you have to change PCs.

The more substantial/important your work is, the more you should look into securing it (to a higher degree). It's not too late to start backing up your work. It's not ideal to redo work you've already done. Insure your sanity and backup your work.

how to backup your work - search on YouTube

Get a reliable high capacity external HDD:

  • great for space intensive work (like video projects, game projects, people who rely on computers for their work)
  • cheaper than SSD per byte (but slower file transfer/read)
  • just drag your folders in there at wait
  • long life

USB stick/flash drive

  • compact, convenient for travel, good starting option if don't like the bulk of HDD
  • cheap (at least the lower volumes)
  • quick transfer (compared to HDD)

Other storage options: CDs, cloud, SSD, microSD (space efficient, combine with microSD to USB adapter?)

Would really like to release a video have been working on a while before PC has another problem that may prove more inconvenient. Although problem easily fixed, wasn't pleasant feeling to have months of work possibly affecting life to high degree coming close to being "threatened" (see this post).
Mental health is very important, affects video production. Some have better tools some don't and have to be more mindful of limitations (you should be mindful of limitations regardless).
But we seldom have no choice in what inconveniences meet us in life.
Regardless, will be streamlining project/folder structures/backup process to make possible PC/data loss inconveniences less inconvenient.

This is a reminder that electronics do fail, like anything else. Also a reminder to not let these things stop you. You will inevitably come across many problems in life which will slow you down (goals), but you will move forward and strive to become a great problem solver (alternative not ideal).
Not everyone will be great problem solvers at first, so help others if you are able, in whatever way you can.

Problem solver example

P.S. Some software wasn't working as well (Razer Synapse), tried to troubleshoot to no avail, ended up somehow triggering windows update which manually interrupted (bright idea) since don't like them. After that BSOD, then had to go on another PC to download windows iso on USB, then PC used the USB drive to repair, back to square one. Maybe an update will come, don't like macros being messed with, makes everything less efficient, therefore less likely to do. Try to avoid interrupting windows update if you can. Windows stubborn. But maybe Bing Soy more stubborn, will have to keep pushing forward, possibly making YouTube viable thing, financial security, making equipment failure less worrisome.
